This effort is rooted in the knowledge we have had for many years that public awareness was being swayed by false claims and data. “The paper’s broader message is that the clinically relevant comparison for an adult who cannot stop smoking is not vaping versus complete abstinence—it is often vaping versus continued cigarette smoking. On that comparison, the authors conclude that declining even to discuss e-cigarettes is no longer consistent with the evidence.”

Why This Matters

The First Amendment guarantees our right to speak freely and access information without undue restrictions. Yet we are forbidden from speaking the plain truth to the American public:

• Nicotine e-cigarettes are substantially less harmful than combustible cigarettes, although they are not risk-free.

• Evidence from randomized trials and systematic reviews indicates that nicotine e-cigarettes are more effective for smoking cessation than conventional nicotine-replacement therapy. The authors also cite evidence suggesting cessation rates comparable to varenicline and cytisine.

• That nicotine vaping is vastly lower in toxicant exposure than cigarettes and is highly effective in helping to quit smoking. The agency itself, along with many leading scientific authorities, acknowledges these well-established facts. Yet if we use those same words with our customers, we are threatened with prosecution, fines, and worse.

We are not going to stand for it, and this campaign aims to get the word out and ensure that our rights to free speech and access to information are restored.
